The Alabama Literacy Alliance is a networking group comprised of literacy leaders and advocates from across the state. We represent every aspect of reading for every age, from early language acquisition for infants to basic reading for adults, from K-12 literacy programs to English classes for non-native speakers, from dyslexia training to prison literacy. Our members hail from government education agencies, non-profits organizations, K-12 school systems, community colleges, and higher ed.
Our mission includes networking and connecting literacy leaders across different areas of expertise to share reading resources and best practices. We also advocate for reading issues with our elected officials and promote literacy efforts in our state.
The Alabama Literacy Alliance was founded in 2011 by a committed group of literacy advocates who understood the need to bring all literacy resources in our state together.
In the past ten years we have supported statewide book giveaways, facilitated informative events around a wide array of literacy topics, organized the statewide Reading Summit, and advocated for such important literacy issues as dyslexia testing in our schools, the Alabama Literacy Act, and the Campaign for Grade Level Reading
